Visa Process

How to Get Your Japan Student Visa

01

Choose an Accredited School

Select a Japanese language school (nihongo gakkou) or university in Japan that is accredited by the Ministry of Education.

02

Achieve Required Japanese Level

Obtain JLPT N5 or N4 certificate (language schools) or N3+ (universities). Speak Global prepares you for all levels.

03

Apply via the School

Your accepting school sponsors your visa application to the Japanese Embassy in Colombo.

04

Receive Certificate of Eligibility

Japan's Immigration Services Agency issues a Certificate of Eligibility, which you use to apply for the student visa at the embassy.

Speak Global Academy Tip

Start your Japanese language course at least 6–9 months before your intended departure date. This gives you enough time to complete N4 or N3 and sit the JLPT examination before your visa application deadline. The JLPT is held twice a year (July and December) — plan your study schedule accordingly.
